The Chance Vought F4U Corsair was a carrier-capable fighter aircraft that saw service primarily in World War II and the Korean War. Demand for the aircraft soon overwhelmed Vought's manufacturing capability, resulting in production by Goodyear and Brewster. 12,571 F4U Corsairs were manufactured by Vought, in 16 separate models, in the longest production run of any piston-engined fighter in U.S. history (1942–1953).

The Corsair served in with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, Fleet Air Arm and the Royal New Zealand Air Force, as well as the French Navy Aeronavale and other, smaller, air forces until the 1960s. It quickly became the most capable carrier-based fighter-bomber of World War II. Some Japanese pilots regarded it as the most formidable American fighter of World War II, and the U.S. Navy counted an 11:1 kill ratio with the F4U Corsair.

The Corsair was powered by a Pratt & Whitney R-2800-18w radial engine capable of producing 2,450 hp and sending the gull-winged bird into the sky at 446mph.


Parkzone has been releasing some cool stuff in the Ultra Micro Market so of course when I saw they were releasing an UM Corsair I knew I had to check it out. Today was the magical day and I was not disappointed.

Kit Contents

The Parkzone UM Corsair comes in either a Bind n' Fly or a Ready-to-fly version. Since I own a Spektrum DX7 the BnF was the option of choice. The kit comes with everything (except the transmitter) to get you in the air. The plane comes with an 8.5 mm coreless brushed motor installed as well as a Spektrum AR6400 receiver. The AS2000L servos are also installed, connected and ready to rotate. Besides the plane the kit comes with a manual, a 1S 3.7v 150mah lipo, a 3.7v lipo charger, 4AA's for the charger and a decal sheet. I thought it was a nice touch to include the decal sheet and let the customer decide how the plane should look. It gives people a chance to show their flair.




The plane is 100% assembled which is awesome for newborn babies and people on the go. Some pressure may be needed to slide the bottom of the charger off and you may experience fatigue installing the 4AA batteries into the charger. If this happens elevate your feet, drink water and when you feel better the supplied 1S lipo will be fully charged and ready to fly.




The Parkzone UM Corsair features realistic looks and stylish lines. The foam looks really nice for something so small and the 3-bladed prop gives the tiny plane an authentic look. In addition to having a genuine DSM2 receiver installed within the plane, it also comes with a steerable tail wheel which was a surprising touch. The tail wheel works perfectly and can turn on a dime giving you $.09 change. Besides the great looks the UM Corsair is a full 4-channel plane with ailerons, rudder and elevator. The plane is nimble and very maneuverable.



First Flight

We went to the local school for the first flight and found a spot between two little league games where we could fly the plane without baseballs or dogs attacking us. The wind was a bit breezy but nevertheless we decided to see what the Parkzone Corsair could do.

I blipped the throttle and rolled 4 feet before pulling the Corsair into the air. The plane flew right into the wind and danced around like a kid on a sugar high. The wind was definitely a factor, but once I got used to the controls I was able to get a better feel for the plane.

The flight was dicey, but fun and I was able to loop and roll the plane without much effort. The roll rate feels slower than the UM P51 and overall the plane was much touchier than the UM Mustang. With the breezy wind blowing from the west it was difficult to get an accurate read on the plane's capabilities, but I will say it can definitely fly in the wind.

Flight Characteristics

Between the gusts I could tell that the plane flew beautifully. About 1/2 throttle gives a solid cruising speed, but there is plenty of juice left in the motor should you decided to turn it up. The plane is snappier than the UM P-51 and the Parkzone Mosquito. This isn't a bad thing; just be aware if you have slower thumbs you may want to program in some reduced throws of about 70% and expo of at least 30%. The plane flew better when the supplied battery was pushed all the way forward towards the nose.

Takeoffs and Landings

The plane doesn't need much space to take off and with the ability to hand launch, getting into the air is simple. A light toss and full throttle and you will be sky high in no time.

Landings are easy as well since the plane is so light and floaty. Land into the wind with a bit of throttle and ease the plane down. If you're above grass the micro warbird doesn't take any damage if you happen to 'plop' down to the ground.

Is This Plane For a Beginner?

A beginner might experience a lot of frustration with this plane since it is sensitive to any input on the sticks, but the beauty of all the planes in the Ultra Micro series is that they are so forgiving in crashes. If you are a beginner be sure to fly over grassy fields and not pavement or fire. The UM Corsair won’t last long diving into the pavement and if you happen to lose the plane in a pit of fire, just let it go because it’s gone. A beginner might benefit from first learning on something like the Parkzone Vapor or Ember 2.


The Parkzone UM Corsair is a decked out plane that comes in a small package. The small RC plane feels well-built and balanced. The plane is quick, nimble and a blast to fly. We found the plane to be a little touchier than other UM offerings, but things can be tamed down with some reduced throws and expo. I really like the scale looking 3-bladed prop, paint job and wheel pants. Everything performed flawlessly in the test flight and put a smile on the face of all who flew it. The Corsair is an iconic warbird and Parkzone does it justice in the Ultra-Micro size.

After flying the UM Corsair in calmer conditions we found that the plane performed much better than the maiden flight. The little warbird flies best with the battery all the way forward and a few clicks of down elevator. The plane loops and rolls very easily and is much floatier than it originally felt like.
